Christ Church American Indian Mission

The Christ Church American Indian Ministry (CCAIM) is a program within Christ Church Mission work, started about 1992. Our focus is helping the Lakota people living on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. In the past we have done many different projects, including a bed program, food programs, and furniture and computers for various people on the reservation.

Currently our main effort has been focused on an annual Christmas Gift Program through which we send gift packages to young (in their Head Start program) each year in December. Funded entirely by yard sale revenues, it starts in early fall when we buy and gather up backpacks and gift items to put in the back packs, including candy, toothpaste and toothbrush, knit winter hats and gloves, educational workbooks, pens, pencils, crayons, a comfy stuffed animal, and one nice toy. Each year our young kids and their families fill the back packs at our Party With A Purpose, usually held on the Sunday just preceding Thanksgiving week. Come and see this wonderful family-fun spectacle!

Beyond this, we usually send quilts, blankets, and winter clothing to the reservation at various times during the year. In addition to our own work, we are a partner organization with ONE Spirit, a national-level organization for supporting the Lakota people. We have helped them with furnishings and computers for the new Youth Center in Allen, SD and at Thanksgiving we send money to buy several turkeys for their family Thanksgiving dinner program. On a few occasions, the two of us have traveled to the Pine Ridge Reservation and helped with various programs, especially their math, science, and art summer camp for the children.
