The Capital Campaign:
Exceeded our goal and raised a total of $801,266!
Constructed between 1874 and 1877, Christ Church stands testament to over 100 years of ministry. Our church has stood because our congregation stands for something-a warm welcome to newcomers, an outreached hand to those in need, and an enduring concern for the students, faculty, and staff at Virginia Tech.
The Bringing Out the Best in Us capital campaign -- which we launched May 22 -- has raised much needed funds to help renew our church facilities and provide a secure foundation for the many vital programs at Christ Church.
Thus far the campaign proceeds received have allowed us to:
- Reduced the outstanding loan for roof repairs that were made in 2005 by $90,000, leaving a balance of $100,000 (in other words the loan has been reduced by half).
- Spent $100,741 thus far for restoration of the east and north walls of the church, including pointing of stone work, window refurbishment, wooden trim repairs and painting, new copper valleys on the roof, and new gutters. Work on the exterior of the church will resume once the weather improves.
- Signed a contract with Grooms and Payne for the refurbishment of the organ and construction of a new console. The vestry authorized a payment of $10,980 to begin this work. We estimate the work to be completed in a year and half to two years.
- The window repair on the church building (i.e. the installation of exterior protective glass) is our first project toward increasing energy efficiency. More projects to follow.
As of January 31, 2011 we have received $485,338 in pledge payments, which is over half of our pledges!
